A big challenge we have when we’re trying to gain muscle, is getting all of our meals in. We need to eat enough to help us gain weight. Especially if you're an ectomorph or hardgainer. It’s so much easier to eat out than to cook and prep your meals. The problem is the cost of all your meals can add up very quickly. Lets say in one week you eat out 10 times. If each meal averages $13, you’re spending $130 per week. That’s at least $520 per month.
If you want to save money, but don’t have the time to cook, start buying family meals or whole roasted chicken. I’ll give you an example. I like to go to a place called Stonefire Grill, and get their lemon garlic chicken. A whole chicken is $15.59 and gives me 6 servings. That’s $2.60 per serving. Now you can get one a lot cheaper at Costco, but when you eat chicken everyday, you’re gonna want the good stuff. Their website shows the nutrition facts and when you break it down, you’re getting 420 calories, 32 grams of protein, and 5 grams of carbs per serving. This includes the lemon garlic sauce which explains the high calories.
For the sides I always have them ready at home. You can easily heat up some rice, and keep some veggies in the fridge. It’s usually the protein that requires the most work to prep. If you don’t have sides at home, go for the family meal that comes with sides. There are so many varieties of chicken you can get. There's Lebanese, Peruvian, Vietnamese, etc. The key is to get these from different places, so that you don’t get sick of eating the same thing all the time. Once you have your go to spots, you'll know exactly where to go and what to order.
When you buy a family meal you can portion everything out in tupperware to make sure everything's ready for your next meals. This can really come in handy if you have a busy schedule and not a lot of free time. So the next time you decide to eat out, take a look at family meals or a la carte in the menu. It could save you a lot of time and money.
